Ib Bluitgen

Ib Bluitgen (December 31, 1921 - August 4, 2013) was a Danish silversmith. At the age of fourteen, Ib Bluitgen was apprenticed to the famous Georg Jensen silversmith, which he completed with a silver medal for journeyman piece. 1945-48 he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts as a student of Professor Utzon-Frank, where he developed his great talent for the inner dynamics and power of form. Ib Bluitgen made his debut as a sculptor at Charlottenborg's Spring Exhibition and Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling, while he rounded off his education with a stay at the Danish Student House in Paris, where he was inspired by the many Danish and foreign artists he met. In the 1950s, Ib Bluitgen was part of the prominent group of designers, craftsmen and silversmiths who helped put Danish silver and crafts on the world map. In 1953, he was hired as general manager of Georg Jensen's famous design studio. He was responsible for corpus works for Danish churches and an extensive production of jewelry. He has participated in exhibitions all over the world, including Paris, London and New York, and is today represented with silver works at the Museum at Koldinghus and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Copenhagen. Among the honors he has received are the Diploma 10. Triennale Milano, the Danish Arts Foundation and the Karl Gustav Hansen Prize. He was a co-founder of the Danish Arts and Crafts Council and was instrumental in establishing the working silversmith workshop at Herning Art Museum. From 1962 until his death, Ib Bluitgen had his own studio in Birkerød, where he worked with corpus, silver jewelry and industrial design.

Lundtofte

Lundtofte is a Danish manufacturer of cutlery and kitchen accessories. The company was established in 1910 by Poul August Lund and his brother Jørgen Christian Lund in Lundtofte, a suburb of Copenhagen. Here is a brief history of Lundtofte cutlery: 1. **Establishment of the company:** In 1910, brothers Poul August Lund and Jørgen Christian Lund founded the Lundtofte company in Lundtofte. They started by producing silverware and cutlery. 2. **Increased popularity:** Lundtofte cutlery gained popularity for its quality products and aesthetic design. The company focused on creating functional and beautiful cutlery that could appeal to a wide audience. 3. **Development of Materials:** In addition to traditional silverware, Lundtofte also started working with other materials such as stainless steel and silver plate. This made their products more accessible to a wider market. 4. **Design and Innovation:** Lundtofte cutlery became known for its modern design and innovative approach to form and function. Their cutlery collections reflected the design trends of the time and were popular among consumers. 5. **Succeeding Generations:** After the Lund brothers, Poul Lund's son, Finn Lund, took over the company. Lundtofte continued to produce high-quality cutlery and their products were also exported to other countries. 6. **Bankruptcy:** Unfortunately, Lundtofte experienced financial challenges and in 1991 the company went bankrupt. This marked the end of an era for Lundtofte as an independent cutlery manufacturer. Although Lundtofte as an independent company no longer exists, Lundtofte cutlery can still be found on the market as antiques or as items in private collections. Lundtofte cutlery has become a nostalgic symbol of Danish design and craftsmanship tradition.
