Description

Georg Jensen Sterling Silver / Steel Acadia Bottle Opener No 271 Measures 11 cm (4.33 inch)

Designed in 1934 by Ib Just Andersen (1884 - 1943).

Ib Just Andersen was born in Godhavn, Greenland and was given the name Just Andersen. He later added the name Ib, when this happened is not officially known.

He was apprenticed as a decorative sculptor, then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts School of Painting in 1910 and later in 1912 studied at the School of Danish Arts and Crafts under Jens Møller-Jensen, then again at the Academy of Fine Arts this time at the School of Sculpture in 1920-1921.

He married Alba Mathilde Lykke, who introduced him to Mogens Ballin, who inspired him. Just Andersen worked as a designer for Georg Jensen, A. Michelsen and P. Hertz in his early career years. Inspired by these various silversmiths, he and his wife opened the company "Just Andersen", which was a silversmithing firm.

Just Andersen

Ib Just Andersen (1891-1943) was a Danish sculptor and ceramicist known for his work with ceramics and metal. He was one of the most important sculptors in Denmark in the first half of the 20th century. Andersen was born in Helmstedt, Germany, but his family moved to Denmark when he was young. He began his career as a sculptor in 1912 and trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. He was a versatile artist and worked in many different materials, including wood, stone, bronze and ceramics. Andersen's ceramic works were particularly notable for their simple forms and fine craftsmanship. He created both sculptures and functional objects such as vases, bowls and mugs. His ceramics were often decorated with ornamental motifs inspired by nature and traditional Danish craftsmanship. In addition to ceramics, Andersen also worked with metal and created a number of beautiful bronze reliefs and sculptures. He was recognized for his ability to combine abstract forms with figurative elements to create dynamic compositions. Andersen was a prolific artist who exhibited his work both in Denmark and internationally. He received several awards and honors for his work and was considered a pioneer of modern Danish ceramics. Sadly, Ib Just Andersen died in 1943 during the occupation of Denmark during World War II. However, he left behind a remarkable legacy in Danish craftsmanship. Today, his works can be found in several museums and private collections around the world.
