Johan Rhode was a graphic artist, painter, designer and critic. In the 1880s, Rohde was an important artist in Germany and Denmark. He challenged the traditional ways of teaching at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and was a leader in the creation of the Free Exhibition, which aimed to show works by artists whose work was not accepted.
He designed objects for everyday use - furniture, silverware and hollowware for his own home.
Rhode and Georg Jensen first met when Rohde commissioned Jensen to execute one of his corpus designs. When this was successful, they decided to continue their collaboration. They worked together for many years after. One of Rhodes' most famous designs was Acorn/Konge.
