Harald Nielsen

Designed by Harald Nielsen (1892 - 1977) Harald Nielsen was the younger brother of Georg Jensen's third wife, Johanne. He wanted to be a painter, but was drawn into Georg Jensen's silversmithy, where he started as an apprentice in 1909. From there, he worked his way up as a designer/director of the blacksmith apprentice school. In 1954, he became director of the smithy and in 1958, he became artistic director, a position he held until 1962. Nielsen's role as head of the apprentice school was particularly important after Jensen's death in 1935, as Nielsen ensured the continued high quality of the company's design and production by recruiting talented young silversmiths and designers and training them to Georg Jensen Silversmiths' high standards.
