However, he wanted to become a sculptor, so he was accepted as a sculpture student at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, from which he graduated in 1892 at the age of 25.In the time that followed, he met Johan Rohde, a painter, designer, sculptor, author and architect who, together with Joakim Skovgaard, had founded Den Frie Udstilling, where Jensen was offered the opportunity to exhibit his sculpture, which had been rejected at the Charlottenborg exhibition.Jensen was awarded a travel grant by the Danish Academy.
